Freestyle Muay Thai Testing Protocol

Beginner Thai-boxer Certification    

  • Applicants will be required to maintain a consistent training schedule for a minumum of 1 month prior to scheduling a testing date.
  • One time fee of $40 at time of scheduling a testing date.
  • Two 2-minute rounds (:30 second rest) will be given to perform 20 repetitions of 5 basic kick, knee and boxing drills.
  • Applicants must be able to show knowledge of proper hand-wrapping technique.
  • Applicants will also be tested on beginner level pad holding skills for the same 5 drills.  Applicants must display proficiency in their pad holding during two 2-minute rounds with a Beginner or above Thai-boxer.
  • Applicants who successfully complete the Beginner Thai-boxer testing will receive recognition of that level and will graduate into the Intermediate training group which includes extended class times, play sparring and weekend training.  Members will also receive one pair of Freestyle Muay Thai team shorts.

Beginner Thai-boxer Testing Guidelines

Trainer: will be holding two kick pads while wearing a belly pad.

Beginner Thai-boxer applicant: can only use the trainer's kick pads, belly pad and heavy bag as targets to complete their kick, knee and hand drill requirements. A deduction of 10 kicks will occur if any strikes occur outside of the trainer's target areas.  Hand wraps and boxing gloves are required.  Both rounds must be completed and if requirements are not completed within the rounds the applicant can reschedule after 2 weeks.

 

Intermediate Thai-boxer Certification

  • Beginner Thai-boxer requirement satisfaction.
  • Applicants will be required to maintain a consistent training schedule for a minumum of 3 months prior to scheduling a testing date.
  • One time fee of $40 at time of scheduling a testing date.
  • 1 mile run under 8:30 minutes prior to testing.
  • Applicants will be given 16 minutes to perform 20 repetitions of 12 kick, knee and boxing drills.
  • Applicants will also be tested on Intermediate level pad holding skills.  Testing will be based on pad holding for 10 kick, knee and boxing drills with an Intermediate or above Thai-boxer.
  • Applicants who successfully complete the Intermediate Thai-boxer testing will receive recognition of that level as well as becoming eligible to participate in A.M. training.  Members [who choose to do so] will also be able to begin participating in team sparring.

 

Intermediate Thai-boxer Testing Guidelines

Trainer: will be holding two kick pads while wearing a belly pad and shin guards. The trainer will feed the applicant techniques/signals, while the applicant performs the appropriate drill. The trainer will not be able to avoid or move away from the applicant while they are throwing techniques. Off-balancing will not be permitted.

Intermediate Thai-boxer applicant: can only use the trainer's kick pads and belly pad as targets to complete their kick, knee and boxing drill requirements. A deduction of 10 kicks will occur if any strikes occur outside of the target areas.  Hand wraps, boxing gloves and mouthpieces are required.  All drills must be completed. Applicants who are not able to complete the requirements within the given time frame can reschedule after 2 weeks.

 

Advanced Thai-boxer Certification

  • Intermediate Thai-boxer requirement satisfaction
  • Applicants will be required to maintain a consistent training schedule for a minumum of 6 months prior to scheduling a testing date.
  • One time fee of $40 at time of scheduling a testing date.
  • Testing of advanced defensive techniques with counters.
  • 1.5 mile run under 13:00 minutes prior to testing.
  • Applicants will be tested on their performance during Five 3-minute rounds. (:30 seconds rest b/w rounds) Applicants will need to display proficiency in all aspects of their technique during these rounds.
  • Applicants will also be tested on Advanced level pad holding skills.  Testing will be based on pad holding for Five 3-minute rounds with an Advanced level Thai-boxer.
  • Applicants who successfully complete the Advanced Thai-boxer testing will receive recognition of that level as well as becoming eligible to join the Freestyle Muay Thai fight team.  Advanced Thai-boxers will also be able to assist with Beginner group classes and receive clients for private lesson training.

 

Advanced Thai-boxer Testing Guidelines

Trainer: will be holding two kick pads while wearing a belly pad and shin guards. The trainer will have the ability to apply pressure to the applicant while throwing Muay Thai techniques. Techniques for this testing may include kicks and punches to head, body and/or legs. Off-balancing will also be permitted. The trainer will be able to avoid or move away from the applicant while they are throwing techniques.

Advanced Thai-boxer applicant: can only use the trainer's kick pads and belly pad as targets to complete their kick, knee and boxing drill requirements. A addition of 20 sprint kicks will occur at the time, if any strikes occur outside of the target areas.  Hand wraps, boxing gloves and mouthpieces are required.  All roundss must be completed. Applicants who are not able to complete the all 5 rounds due to fatigue or injury can reschedule after 2 weeks. 

Freestyle Muay Thai Trainer Certification

  • Advanced Thai-boxer requirement satisfaction.
  • Applicants will be required to maintain a consistent training schedule for a minumum of 1 month prior to scheduling a review date.
  • One time fee of $40 at time of scheduling review appointment.
  • Experience assisting as a cornerman in competitive events.
  • Ability to teach and uphold Freestyle Muay Thai Training Protocol.
  • Test applicants for Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced Thai-boxer Certifications.
  • 3 months experience running group and private training sessions. 
  • Competition experience.
